A conuco is a plot of cultivated land, usually originated by clearing a small area of trees in the tropical parts of Latin America. The word has a Taíno origin—not Spanish—and may have a positive or negative connotation. It is many times related to poverty and environmental degradation. It can also be related to human-scale work, very careful selection of crops.

Conuco is also my small place amongst the trees, a cross between a sketchbook and a scrapbook. Most text and pictures were written or captured by me. The exceptions are acknowledged, either explicitly (by giving a name) or implicitly by a ‘reblog’ link.
