Barely above sea level

Last Friday I went to Bottle Lake Forest, a multipurpose plantation just at the edge of Christchurch. Being next to the city, recreation is a very important activity and there are plenty of walking and cycling trails. I was there checking a stand for taking the forest mensuration class for an activity, looking at some bearings (road and stand were very neatly orientated) and then I saw: 10 metres above sea level.

Christchurch is a very flat city, next to the ocean, but sometimes one loses the sense of how low we are. I live at around 30 masl and last week we went up to 100 masl (!) while driving 16 km. Low in productivity too; we may need to adjust the age for running the growth models.

It’s very cool to have the chance to practice with a stand that’s pretty much in the city.
