Ubuntu update

Today I installed R, r2u (using the script for 24.04 LTS), and RStudio. I also installed neovim and lazyvim, trying to keep basic feature parity between my Ubuntu desktop and macbook.

Talking about parity, dealing with apt (or nala when dealing with larger programs) works really well with system-wide stuff. However, installing smaller, newer stuff feels very hacky (download this, move it there, adjust whatever path, etc).

I find using brew much easier in this situation, with the advantage that I end up with the same versions in both desktop and laptop.

Why neovim? It’s part of my going back to the terminal and reducing contact with Microsoft (sorry, VS Code). Lately I’ve felt this constant nagging from some companies and living in a non-Microsoft environment feels peaceful for a few hours a day.
